EAPO OFFICIALLY JOINS THE HAGUE SYSTEM: NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR DESIGN PROTECTION
Starting October 10, the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) will begin accepting applications for the international registration of industrial designs.
EAPO President Grigory Ivliev officially handed over the instruments of accession to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement to WIPO Director General Daren Tang. Alexei Kurman, Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property (Republic of Belarus), also attended the formal ceremony.
Key Business Advantages:
- "One-Stop Shop": Obtain design protection in over 90 countries and regions through a single international application.
- Cost Savings: Registration expenses can be reduced by 60–80% because there is no longer a need to hire local patent attorneys in every individual country.
- Unitary Patent: A Eurasian industrial design patent will be effective simultaneously across eight member states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
Joining this global system will significantly streamline the commercialization of design solutions and bolster the export potential of Eurasian manufacturers in international markets.
